Hi Rachel,

I enjoyed reading your blogs :)
Indeed, I agreed with you 100% on the green initiatives.

Indeed, 8 out of 10 of my neighborhood are all chatting about the ideas of green..eg, green furniture, organic plant. I guess people have come to realize we need to decorate more green at the house to be more eco friendly.

Hi Patricia,
Sorry I've taken so long to reply. I'm just getting used to the set-up.
In answer to your question, the best thing to look for when selecting solar shades is if they are GreenGuard certified or not. GreenGuard is a third party, independent certifier, strictly focused on the issue of chemical off-gassing. The certification does not mean that the product is environmentally friendly in any other way though. If you are looking for solar shades, then your best bet is to find a recycled polyester shade, rather than an all natural fabric, which might not stand up to strong sunlight for a long time. I'm normally not a big fan of anything other than natural fibers, but there are instances where practicality and longevity are more important. Just make sure to avoid shades with PVC.

Hi Rachel,
I'm renovating my contemporary home and am looking for some natural window treatments. I was disappointed that even the "green certified" companies such as Hunter-Douglas and Mecho have off-gassing in their supposedly environmentally safe products! Do you know of an all natural fabric, solar shade that will diminish uv rays that will be suitable in a home office and bedroom?
